If your Google Play Store says “Something went wrong” or “Try again” (sometimes “Something went wrong on our end. Please try again.”), it usually means Play Store can’t complete a request to Google servers because of:
- Bad internet / DNS / VPN / proxy
- Low storage
- Play Store cache/data corruption
- Google Play services conflict
- Account sync / authentication stuck
- Sometimes: a temporary Google-side outage
Common screens you might see
- “Something went wrong. Try again”
- “Something went wrong on our end. Please try again”
- “Error retrieving information from server DF-DFERH-01” (or similar)
- Play Store loads, but downloads fail or are stuck
Fast “is it your phone or Google?” check
- Switch to mobile data (turn Wi-Fi off) → test Play Store
- If it works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi → it’s likely router/DNS/VPN
- If it fails on both → continue below (Play Store/Play services/account)
Do this first
Try these in order (most common wins):
- Close Play Store → reopen
- Switch Wi-Fi ↔ mobile data, turn VPN/Proxy/Private DNS OFF
- Check storage (keep >1 GB free)
- Clear Google Play Store cache + data
- Clear Google Play services cache + data (if still failing)
- Restart phone
- Remove & re-add Google account (if still stuck)
Google Play Store Download Pending: 13 Fixes
Fix 1: Close & reopen Play Store
Google includes closing/reopening Play Store as a basic troubleshooting step.
Fix 2: Switch network (Wi-Fi ↔ mobile data)
- Try mobile data
- Try another Wi-Fi
- If your Wi-Fi is slow, reboot router/modem
Google recommends checking connection quality first.
Fix 3: Turn OFF VPN / Proxy / Private DNS (temporarily)
A lot of “Try again” loops are just DNS or VPN issues.
- VPN OFF
- Proxy OFF
- Private DNS OFF (test)
Then retry.
Fix 4: Check storage (keep at least 1 GB free)
Low storage can stop installs/downloads and cause Play Store errors. Google explicitly mentions <1 GB available can block downloads.
Fix 5: Restart your phone
This clears stuck background services (simple but effective).
Fix 6: Clear Google Play Store cache (safe)
Settings → Apps → Google Play Store → Storage & cache → Clear cache
Google calls clearing cache the most common solution for Play Store issues.
Fix 7: Clear Google Play Store data (strong)
Settings → Apps → Google Play Store → Storage → Clear storage/data
Google notes this can remove some Play Store settings (like parental controls) and you may need to re-agree to Terms.
Fix 8: Clear Google Play services cache/data (when errors keep coming back)
Settings → Apps → Google Play services → Storage & cache → Clear cache → Clear data
Google provides this as a core step when Play services is involved.
Fix 9: Check Date & Time (set automatic)
Google’s basic troubleshooting includes checking date and time settings because incorrect time can break secure connections.
Go to: Settings → Date & time → Set automatically (ON)
Fix 10: Update Play Store (built-in update)
Open Play Store → Profile → Settings → About
Tap Update Play Store if available. Google lists this in their Play Store troubleshooting flow.
Fix 11: Remove & re-add your Google account (auth fix)
If Play Store keeps saying “Try again” even after cache/data:
Settings → Accounts → Google → Remove → Restart → Add again
Google includes remove/re-add account in official troubleshooting.
Fix 12: Uninstall Play Store updates (revert to factory version)
If Play Store itself is bugged:
Settings → Apps → Google Play Store → (3 dots) Uninstall updates
Google includes uninstall/reinstall Play Store updates as an advanced fix.
Fix 13: If you see DF-DFERH-01 / server retrieval errors
This error often clears after:
- Clearing Play Store cache/data
- Clearing Play services cache/data
- Removing/re-adding your Google account
Fix 14: If none of this works
At that point, it can be:
- A temporary Google-side issue (try again later)
- A device integrity/certification issue (custom ROM / not certified)
- Or an OS-level issue requiring a system update
