If Android shows “App not installed” (or “Package appears to be invalid”), the cause is usually:
- Free at least 1–2 GB storage
- If it’s an APK: download the correct variant (Android version + CPU/architecture)
- Delete the APK and re-download (corrupt file is common)
- Turn VPN/Private DNS OFF and try again (download can break)
- Clear Package Installer cache/data, then retry install
- If it’s Play Store: clear Play Store + Play Services cache/data and restart
Wi-Fi Connected but No Internet on iPhone: 11 Fixes
Step 1: Check storage (most common)
Low storage can stop installs silently.
Go to: Settings → Storage
Delete large videos, unused apps, WhatsApp media, etc. Then try again.
Step 2: Restart your phone
This clears stuck installer processes. Google’s Android help also recommends restarting as a first fix for app problems.
Step 3: If you’re installing from Play Store (not APK)
Try Google’s basic Play Store troubleshooting steps:
- Check internet
- Check storage
- Restart device
- Retry download/install
If Play Store itself is acting weird, Google also provides advanced Play Store fixes.
Step 4: If you’re installing an APK (sideload)
This is where most “App not installed” errors happen.
A) Make sure the APK matches your phone
Some APKs are made for specific:
- Android versions (e.g., Android 10+)
- CPU types (arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86)
- Screen density variants
If you install the wrong one, Android may refuse it.
B) Re-download the APK
If the download was incomplete, you’ll get “invalid package”.
Step 5: Check “Install unknown apps” permission (APK installs)
If you’re installing from Chrome/File Manager:
Go to Settings → Security/Privacy → Install unknown apps and allow it for that app (only if you trust it).
Also remember: Google Play Protect can warn or block unknown apps.
Step 6: Don’t disable Play Protect (security note)
Play Protect is there to protect you from harmful apps and unknown APK risks. If you’re forced to turn off protections just to install an app, that’s a red flag.
Step 7: Clear Package Installer cache/data (APK fix)
On many phones:
Settings → Apps → (3 dots) Show system → Package Installer / Package Installer Service → Storage → Clear cache / Clear data
Then try installing again. (This is a common working fix when installer gets stuck.)
Step 8: Clear Play Store cache/data (Play Store fix)
If installs fail from Play Store:
- Google Play Store → Storage → Clear cache / Clear data
- Google Play Services → Storage → Clear cache / Clear data
Then restart and retry. Many official guides recommend clearing Play Store related data for download/install issues.
Step 9: Update Play Store and Android
- Update Play Store (it can update silently)
- Update Android system if available
Step 10: If an older version of the same app already exists
Uninstall the old version first (or remove conflicting clone apps). Conflicts can trigger “App not installed”.
Step 11: Last resort (only if nothing works)
If installs are broken across all apps:
- Backup important data
- Consider a system reset (only if necessary). Android has official reset guidance.
